Dell Printer A920

I have loaded the driver from the Dell website and I have to things going on- 1.  It is not reading the scanner just keep searching for scanner application. 2. When it prints it is not pringting full lines- as in font size - it prints in block letters- each line in a paragraph appears to be missed at the top of the letters.  Can anyone help me?

I have uninstalled twice and re-enstalled- working with windows XP on a dell laptop, the printer is checked as my default printer- it appears to me that is not alugning write or reading the doccumnets correctly and that the scanner piece did not nowload with driver...but what do I know.  Help!

    Clgolden,

Follow the instructions as I have them below and then tell me what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and un-install all versions of Java, restart your computer and download and install the latest Java.

    Disconnect your printer.

Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch, a MUST on Vista machines, until it prompts you to restart your computer.

    Restart your computer.

    Download the proper drivers.

    XP Drivers

    Vista 32-bit Drivers

    Vista 64-bit drivers

    All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

    Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

    clgolden,

Yes, double click on the Dell Cleanup Utiloity and run it. this program will remove all the previous drivers and items so the printer will install properly. Run the patch until it prompts you tpo restart your computer.

    Restart your computer

Do the same for the proper printer drivers. Keep the printer disconnected until you install the drivers and it will prompt you to connect the printer(powered on) Pleasae use a 5ft or smaller USB Cable.

I have followed the direct and have and now I am at the point that I have downloaded the patch- it now is asking me if I want to extract all files- I dare not touch- is this right-you did not note that would be the option.  It loaded a Dell XP Cleanup Utility and then I opened it and that is where it is asking me to extract all files

Thanks Rick.  I was having the same problem and your fix worked.  It was driving me crazy and I didn't want to get a new printer.  I bought a new Studio and kept my old monitor and A920 printer.  Getting used to Vista is going to take some time.  Right now I would have to say I don't like the way it works.  I can't get my Outlook 07 to connect to my ISP.  I'v seen other folks have had this problem too on the MS forums.  No fix yet.  Any ideas?

    Skycontrol,

I'm glad that you were able to get your printer working, again. :emotion-21:

As for Outlook and you ISP, I could take a stab at that but, you'll need to create a new thread at Dell Microsoft OS Forum. Please include your ISP, like aol.com, comcast.net, hotmail.com, etc..., just so you do NOT post your email address and I'll see if I can help.

I am new to the Dell forum so pardon me if I am not following the standard protocol.

I am trying to connect my Dell A920 printer to my new Dell 530 Studio desktop which has Vista.  I tried to follow the steps that you described above doing the Dell Cleanup utility first, and then the two other downloads -- Driver and Application.

The driver download seems to have worked for now the desktop recognizes the A920 printer.  However, the Application download apparently did not work for I do not have the All-in-One Center screen where I used to select what tasks I would like e.g. copy, scan, fax etc.  Under the Programs list, I can only see under Dell Printer, the following:

    a) Dell Order Ink Cartridge

    b) Dell Printer Solution Center

    c) View Dell User's Guide

When I tried to open the folder "R153716" (unzipped), I saw a long list of programs including one called "Install".  I opened this and it led me to a list of other programs and I did not know which one to open for none has an extension of .exe.

I would appreciate your help in this regard.

    Mike

    Mike,

    The basics are...

Disconnect the printer. Download and run the patch until you are prompted to restart your computer. Restart your computer. The you'll need to download the proper Vista drivers. When you go to install the proper drivers, wait until you get the message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time. The Dell All-In-One Center is in the drivers package. No need to install the application. Try a different USB Port if you continue to get the message to connect the printer.

I have better instructions located at...

    A920 All-In-One Inkjet Printer owners thread (W7)

    Let me know what happens.

Rick -- Thanks for your prompt reply.  I will follow your instructions and let you know of the outcome.  As a newbie to this forum, how do I find again this thread to keep you posted.   I found your answer to my post by scanning all the recent posts.  Is there an easier way?    Mike

Rick -- Thanks for your prompt responses.  I followed your instructions up the point where I downloaded the Vista 32 drivers.  However, I did not get the message that the printer is not connected.  I went  to my desktop where the unzipped files of the drivers were saved in the folder "R153047".  When I opened that foler it has the following files:

    + Apps

    + Common

    + Drivers

    + Install

    + Pubs

When I opened +Drivers, I saw the following:

    +Config

      English

      X86

What should I do next?  My A920 is unplugged from the AC and the USB cable connection is not attached at all to the computer.
