Previously I noted that to get rid of the black vertical stripe when using the top feeder, I cleaned the narrow glass on the left end of the scanner, and I cleaned the white metal bar above it, and that worked fine.  However, it did not get rid of the "Replace Drum" message.  So, I reinstalled the original installation disc that came with the computer.  Now the printer is working like new.
