In the last batch of Windows Updates, Microsoft installed Internet Explorer 11. IE11 had been causing printer problems.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

Try these tweaks...

Start, control panel, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

Check your virus program and firewall settings.

I have to add the printer by IP to my DC when I use the dell software the printer name wont change so I have a lot of  printers named 24b456h234b and 356jh6yfg9023 or 2335-jh323hb7   on the input panel when I get to the device name part it shows the gibberish but wont let me change it. and again in the dell printer software where I can try and flash the device it shows the gibberish printer name but wont let me change it.

at my hotel I cant get any of the front of the house staff to ever get the scanner to work , %50 because the touch panel is pretty archaic (not the brightest users) and the other %50 it wont see there terminal there at...

I have a windows 2008R2 domain level, with XP pro and 7pro and a couple 8pro clients and they all seam affected. my VM's with 2003 server seam the least problem some with the printers, and payroll prints out reliably through a VPN but the scanner has better luck (still not %100) with USB, but that's not an option for all but one of my printers. unfortunately that user was limited and I couldn't get the scanner to work except as a local administrator.(adding the limited domain user to the local pc as a local admin) but that defeats the point of a limited user.....

I have maybe 20 2335's on my domain network, and the scanner is the biggest pain in my rear.

clicking on the printer scan then network location then it says nothing found, I go to the computer, and the scan manger says it sees the printer just fine at 10.0.0.163 I click the refresh button for the fun of it. printer still sees no computer to scan to. I reboot the printer, still no computer to scan to. reboot the computer, still no computer to scan to. go back to scan manager, adjust some random property then click apply and then change the value back to what it was, then click apply. and 60/40 the printer sees something to scan to. %10 of the time rebooting the printer, or the computer, or both so that's another 30% .

sometimes I have to completely uninstall scan manager and reinstall it.

the printing part is just fine.

and i.e. 11 is printable...

in my legal office I have 2 people share a 2335 and both people constantly don't get scanning.... sometimes my computer shows up in there scanner ???? I tried to update firmware. (hoping it would solve some agony) but I usually get errors on that too.

on my printer in i.t. I think its a 2330 when I print certin documents page 2 always errors out. usually when I do pages with 72pt font in bold letters, always the ones I need 10 of. every page after the first is an error page. ill look for the error.

I have a domain with a lot of computers (100?) and the printer is a shared network p[rinter from one of my DC's but the scanner part just wont let me share it! these things are labor intensive I don't understand why they constantly forget where they can scan.

I make sure the Power management settings are unchecked for all network adapters, wireless, Ethernet and usb host controllers.

XP was always a system that did not always want to stay connected. My wife's XP system sometimes disconnects from the Internet and I have to turn off the adapter, then turn it back on. I would imagine that if the XP systems are Ethernet connected, the connection would be stable.

Printers, I don't have a lot of knowledge about Laser Printers. I know more about Inkjet Printers. I know some printers are told to sleep/hibernate and then have problems waking. We have a Laser Printer at work. I accessed the control panel, using the ip address of the printer. I then went in and told the printer to stay online. It would print every time. They eventually went to each department and changed the settings(password protected) then told the printers to sleep or shutdown at a set time. That's ok if the printer is awake when you need to use it. We now have to power off the printer, then power it back on to print. If a printer has these options, it's better to make sure the printer is online, when needed. My Dell Inkjet printer has Eco-Mode and it sleeps after 10 minutes. When I send a print message, it takes 30 seconds for the printer to wake up, then the print job prints. Maybe the printer needs a minute to get connected. after it's powered on, to find the computer needed to scan to.

changed to wireless and still had same problems; uses tons of ink even though I have it set for black only. can't print anything if color ink is low, at any rate have to replace ink at least once a month even though we rarely use the printer. can't print more than one different copy at a time have to reboot and unplug printer b/4 printing again, AND it took 1/2 hr to print 1/4 of a simple sketch....so tomorrow I'm slinging this in the dump and purchasing a new printer AND it will not be a dell......nor will I ever purchase a dell product again. you win dell I surrender can't use your products.
