Problem printing large PDF file

Dimension 2400

XP Home

512 MB memory

HP 6940 printer

Trying to print a 142 page PDF file on HP 6940 printer.  Document is in very large fonts and three colors though no graphics.  Once the document is loaded and begins printing the process stops after 20 pages and nothing happens for ten minutes or so yet the hard drive is active.  Eventually another 50 pages prints but then another longer pause while the hard drive stays active.  Fifteen minutes later no resumption in printing yet the hard drive remains active.  Finally give up and cancel the printing.  Wondering if this is a problem with the memory and the unusually large size of the fonts in the PDF or any other ideas about what the problem is.

That is a huge print project and either the PC or the printer probably can't spool (put in memory) the entire print job.  Only print part of the job at a time and you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for the info.  I learn something new all the time here.  Sure would be nice if resources would put their documents into printer friendly formats.
