Problem with Dell 941 All-In-One

Just reinstalled AIO946 print driver after installing patch R166247.zip.  All indications are that 946 is installed, but I can't find it in "add and remove programs" of control panel.  Also does not appear in viewing all programs.  Printer does work, but all in one feature is not found.

When searching the address bar, AIO946 is found in Dell file.  What do I need to do to use the all-in-one features?

    Treasurer,

I see your figures are a little off. Dell does NOT have a 941 printer. :emotion-5: I guess you meant the 946 printer, since you have it mentioned below.

Please follow these instructions as I have then and then tell me what happens.

Make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially.net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

    Disconnect your printer.

Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch(a MUST on Vista computers) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

    Restart your computer.

    Download the proper drivers.

    XP Drivers

    Vista 32-bit Drivers

    XP & Vista 64-bit Drivers.

    All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

    Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Rick,  Thanks for the help.  The All in one feature of the 946 is now working.  Had several glitches and I'm not sure if they mean anything since the printer and features are working.  #1 - While running the Dell Cleanup Util.exe file a "Print to Fax" error box came up as follows:  "An installation support file could not be found", but the cleanup continued.  #2 During the installation of the driver from Dell Downloads, new box came up as follows: "File dlcicnv4.dll on Dell is needed".  When I searched for the file, I broused my computer and found it in C:\Program Files\Dell AIO Printer 946\Drivers\I386.  When I clicked on the file, another file name came up and I forgot to write it down (dlciwds2) could be the name but I'm not sure.  #3 When searching for the dlcicnv4 file, I found that there was a second Dell AIO Printer 946 (2) file.  Should this second file be deleted???.

By the way, thanks again for your help.  Treasurer

    Treasurer,

Let's try something simple. Restart your computer. After you connect, then wait a minute or 2 and open Word. Leave the page blank. Click on file, then print. select the proper Dell Photo 946 printer and then try to print. It should go through the motions and then spit out a blank paper from the printer. If you didn't get a blank sheet and it hangs, then delete and/or cancel the print job. I have noticed that sometimes deleting print jobs in Vista, they don't go away quick. If it doesn't go away, then restart your computer.

Look in control panel, printers and faxes and make sure the print job is gone. Now Open Word again, click file, then print and select the other Dell Photo 946 printer. Does it spit out a blank page? If so, then this is the printer to keep and delete the other printer. If you are getting the error messages, then we need to try something a little different.
