Scanner to printer will not install

Well, I really think I've done it this time!  I have tried to install 3 All-in-one printers because I need the scanner devise and the scanners will not install. I remember back in January I got aggravatied and deleted the scanners icon from the 'printers installed' page. After many $'s and a lot of aggravation I now realize that the scanner icon was pre-installed in the computer for a reason. I now believe the components to it must have been to help the printer scanners install. My warranty is up so I can't use tech support (free). I just found the instructions to restore the computer to the factory settingst I hate to do it if I don't have to. I can't remember what was written next to the scanner icon to reinstall it from "Add a Printer'. I have an Inspiron Desktop 530S running Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2). Does anyone have any ideas? I don't go into the forum often but I have always gotten good advice and info, especially when I had to install the SP2 into my Windows XP a few years back. I have found that the info I get from the forum is usually better than the tech support. I would appreciate any help.

I had an H-P J5780 installed just fine. (It has since lost it's scanning ability) Then I tried an H-P 6480 still no scan. I just tried to install an Epson Workforce 610 and still no scanner. Two people who are techs said the Epson was the less complicated and it actually came with manuals!!!
