My 924 color cartridge is almost empty after EIGHT sheets of pictures! Is this the normal capacity? If so, does anyone have any experience refilling cartridges?
Yes. The color ink carts in all inkjet printers are used up at a rate from 10 to 100 times the black rate depending on what the color content of the photograph is. Remember it has to cover an area 10 to 100 times more than the normal black typed page. I just printed 60 8x10 color photos and got 8 prints to the ink cart.
The cartridges you have are the easiest to refill. I use the Universal, NCR, or I-Print brands of refill kits. I pay about $7.50 for a 3 times refill. They also come in 4 times refill for about $10.00. The kits are available at dozens of discount and drug stores. All brands recommend refilling a cart only once, but I have refilled my black cart more than 50 times and the color cart several dozen.
When you refill the ink level will always say empty but it does not affect printing. Only new ink carts from Dell will reset the ink level indicator.
