DMX + Bluetooth Software??

OK, sorry I changed my mind and thought I'd post this query here as well as trying to get technical support to get back to me.

I just received my Inspiron 8600 on Tuesday (today being Thursday).  When I click on the Dell Media Experience icon the windows installer appears, quickly followed by a box titled and with the message and an ok box.  Clicking ok just brings back the same and after numerous clicking of this Dell Media Experience finally appears.  There does not appear to be a setup.exe related to Bluetooth, and besides that what does Bluetooth have to do with the Dell Media Experience?  My laptop is not yet connected to the internet and I have not started any bluetooth devices.

How do I stop the windows installer & bluetooth software box appearing everytime I try to use DMX?  Its rather annoying and I really don't think that should be happening particularly since my laptop is only 2 days old!

Thanks for any suggestions
Victoria

    Victoria_S,

The Inspiron 8600 has a built in Bluetooth Wireless Card. I am a desktop technician so this is out of my field. Repost your question on the Inspiron Network board . Have the moderator verify that the internal Bluetooth Wireless Card is installed correctly. Once done, let me know the results.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my brand new Inspiron 9100.  Please let me know what you find out.  Thanks.

    Hiya champnms,
Got in touch with Dell support, the told me to reinstall DMX and provided me with a webpage that told me how to do it!  Unfortunately the webpage said 'put in the cd' which of course I didn't and still don't have. (Have actaully spoken to someone about getting the (Euro tools cds, as well as having emailled them and supposedly they are going to be sent out..... just don't know how long they will take to arrive!)

However, due to messing up setting up my wireless network and running out of ideas, I clicked on 'system restore' to the factory settings (an option given somewhere in the control panel I think).  This actually fixed the problem with DMX!

Oh, if you click the message box about bluetooth enough DMX may start up anyway.

But whether you want to do that since it resets everything, and if you've uninstalled things like AOL and McAfee it puts 'part' of these back.  Meaning I ended up with AOL Spyware and McAfee running but got messages saying that certain components were missing.  Then when I tried uninstalling them it would tell me they must already have been installed!  Reinstalling AOL from the trial cd I got and then uninstalling didn't get rid of spyware, and the dell security centre cd (mcafee) didn't work... 'setup.exe' just sat and looked at me and wouldn't run.  These components floating around were messing up the security software that I wanted, and eventually I just got a friend to wipe everything and start again from XP!  It works fine now, but I don't now have DMX installed.  However, maybe I was unlucky??!!

I am experiencing this exact problem with my new (2 day old) Inspiron 510m.
Starting up Dell Multimedia Experience (or inserting a DVD into the DVD+-RW drive which triggers DMX) brings up the Windows Installer box, quickly followed by a Bluetooth Software dialog with the message "Please execute setup.exe."
Clicking OK or clicking on the close button will just cause the dialog to immediately reappear. It finally seems to give up after about 16 instances. Dell Multimedia Experience DOES proceed to load and work. It appears half-way through me battling with these dialogs.

Is there an official solution to this problem? It is most irritating. Dell did not ship the Operating System CD or Drivers & Utilities CD with my system, despite them being pictured and referenced in my manual. To my knowledge I cannot therefore do a system restore or reinstall Dell Multimedia Experience. There may be a recovery partition on my drive, but I would have no idea how to use that as there were no instructions provided on how to do so. The manual assumes you have the CD's which I do not.

Interestingly, starting Cyberlink PowerDVD from its Program Files folder does not cause this issue. I mention this because DMX seems to be nearly identical to PowerDVD (just Dell branded?).

If anyone from Dell is troubleshooting this issue, there is a string of entries in the Windows Error Reporting section of the System Information tool. There is a separate entry for each time the Bluetooth Software dialog pops up in front of the Windows Installer, so these entries appear in large groups of 16 or however many clicks it took to get rid of it. Each entry is IDENTICAL:

    Type: MsiInstaller
Description: Detection of product '{90535871-8189-4D99-8A13-A7EE97F2D7FE}', feature 'WidcommBluetoothSoftware' failed during request for component '{436D7A23-36BE-11D2-ACBB-0080C7FCBB84}' '

I wonder why this Bluetooth related error manifests itself when you start Dell Multimedia Experience? You'd think Bluetooth wouldn't be involved.

Although all this tech stuff is meaningless to me, I have found that if you do a google search for '436D7A23-36BE-11D2-ACBB-0080C7FCBB84' it brings up a few results. None of them regarding Dell Multimedia Experience, but some do detail this loop phenomenon caused by a failed request for this component.

    Dave510m,

Dell PC Restore by Symantec is activated during the boot process. When you see the blue bar at the top of the page with "www.dell.com" in white letters, you have 2 seconds to press Control & F11 (Ctrl/F11). This will restore the system to factory condition.

You may call Dell Customer Care or technical support to request the Media Service Kit. If your system model is still being sold, agents should issue an EXG dispatch type for the Media Service Kit listed in the RSL Online that corresponds with the system's Windows XP version (Home or Pro) and Service Pack (1A or 2).

    Thanks for your response.

I have checked your Ctrl-F11 suggestion and it does indeed put me through to a system restore screen. Haven't yet followed through with it but it's good to know it's there.

The thing with this new system restore is that it restores the computer to exactly how it was when I received it. Unfortunately, I imagine this will include the bloated version of McAfee Security Centre which will expire in 90 days, trial editions of Paint Shop Pro and Studio, a load of DVD writer stuff, AOL, Tiscali and BT internet sign-up things, plus a couple of other AOL media players, and out-of-date versions of Java and Realplayer. All in all the setup is pretty bloated.

I guess there's no way for an Inspiron customer to achieve a clean install of Windows XP then?

Once again, thanks for your response.

Sorry to play dumb, but what do the acronyms 'EXG' and 'RSL' stand for? Also, what does a Media Service Kit comprise? The Operating System CD and Drivers & Utilites CD?

    EXG = exchange
RSL = Recommended Spare parts List

Media Service Kit operating system, Resource CD
