You didn't say what version of Office but, if you're refering to the Office 2000 SP3 CD, there is a file called SP3INST.htm on the CD that has complete instructions and will tell you which file to use. The executables on the CD are self-extracting archives and you would extract the files to a location of your choice (I ususally use the desktop) and then run the update from there.

Thanks for the reply. I was talking about SP3 for Office XP Professional.

I installed Office XP SP3 from Office update, so don't have the disk, but I think you should look for a read me or similar text or html file on the CD. There usually is one.

Does it not autostart when you insert the CD? that would either start the setup or open a window with instructions. What are the two choices you mention?

First of all the CD does auto-start up to the point where I get to choose from two folders.

These two folders are "FULLFILE" and "STANDARD". When I insert the CD the screen only shows these two folders.

When I click on "STANDARD I see this file, "SP3CDOP Office XP Service Pack".

When I choose the "FULLFILE" option I get, "SPD3CDFF, Office XP Service Pack 3 Full-file".

After clicking on either folder I get the following box,

"Please type the location where you want to placethe extracted files"

I can either type the location in the box or click on the browse, OK, or cancel buttons.

 

Again, thanks for your help. (I thought it would be easier to do this from the CD rather than tie up our phone line for so long (dial-up)).
