I've got the exact same problem! We've got about 15 OptiPlex 980 MT here, Windows XP with all current Microsoft Updates installed and Office 2007 SP2. We also have about 25 Optiplex 745/755/760 here which don't have these problems! I did a lot of Troubleshooting but with no success. The problem on the 980's is also occuring with nothing else installed then a new installed XP, DELL Drivers and Office 2007.

The DELL Service Hotline was not able to help me - the only way would be the DELL Software Support (but I would have to pay them). But Sorry DELL, I would rather buy my new PCs from another vendor in future than pay DELL for fixing a DELL specific problem.

I hope someone out there has a solution! If I have any news related to that problem I will post it here!

We were having exactly the same problem with our Dell 980's.  The only difference is we run Novell Groupwise but the symptoms are the same.  We were also having Internet Explorer, Microsoft Access and a variety of other applications crash.

We seem to have solved the issue by upgrading the BIOS on the Dell 980's to the latest version, A03.  After doing this we then needed to upgrade the Intel graphics driver, but I would suggest updating all the drivers anyway.

This seems to be the solution! After upgrading the BIOS to A03 and using the newest Intel graphics driver provided by Dell the problems all disappeared.

We ordred 6 of the 960s and they all had bad NICs. none would hold a stable connection nor would even join the domain. Returned 6 and got 3 more bad ones. Returned those again and later would get problems with outlook and other network problems and disconnectis. dell eventually sent in new motherboards for those. In the end I think there was a bad batch of 960 that have hardware issue. The bad ones that we did get we also update all the drivers on all of them and would still get problems. I would call dell up for a new board if you run into this into the future.

Same problem I had here XP SP3, Office 2007 SP2 Dell 980, office would close unexpectedly. I upgraded BIOS to A04 (O980-a04.exe) and the Graphics driver to version 6.14.10.5284 (Intel_multi-device_A04_R282199.exe) and problem gone away!
