Startup Icon on Desktop
Just purchased a new desktop with Windows 7 and am having trouble getting application software to start from the desktop icon. This problem has happened with the last two pieces of application software I installed, Turbo Tax Premium and Hallmark Card Studio. Both indicate Windows 7 compatibility on the box. Each program loaded normally and posted a startup icon on my desktop. However, when I try to use the icon both programs go back into an "Install" mode and try to reload the program. I can run either program by going into the program folder and clicking on the appropriate file.
I have other programs that I have installed that run off their icons, AOL and two older versions of Hallmark Card Studio. I tried reloading each of the two programs with the same result.
Thanks,
jjs

I can't say for sure of course, but it's possible the two programs created desktop icons, just in case oyu had problems during their installation, such that youy could simply click on the icon to start again?
If you want desktop shortcuts for them though, there are three things you can do (you'll just have to forgive me if this is like 'teaching you how to *** eggs', but you'll appreciate I don't know your level of expertise):
1. Right-click on the current desktop icon, select 'Properties', and change the shortcut location to point to wherever the program is installed - i.e. C:\Program Files\TurboTax\TurboTax.exe / C:\Program Files\Hallmark Card Studio\Card Studio.exe.
2. Delete the shortcut icons from the desktop, open the respective program folders in the Start Menu, and copy/paste their shortcuts to the desktop.
(I've suggested deleting the original desktop shortcuts first, because they'll likely have the same name as the shortcuts you'll be copying/pasting?)
3. Open the respective program folders, locate the .exe file for each program, create a shortcut to it, then cut/paste the shortcut to the desktop.
