System Restore Failure

os 2003 win.xp home edition -sp3.- pentium 4cpu-2.80GHz - 768mb ram.

My system restore has stopped working. It is on & it has the restore days highlighted (bold). i try to restore on any of the days & it says your computor cannot be restored to this day. please try another. I have turned it off & reset it, get new restore days & it still will not work.

All help will be appreciated,

doubleg.

You can see if it works in Safe Mode - just note that you won't have the option to undo the restore like you do in normal mode:

If it works in safe mode, then something running in normal is intefering, possibly an antivirus program (Norton is one that's known to block system restore).    If it worked before and doesn't work now, then something is different - but tracking it down could be a real slog.

Just in case:  If you mean changing to a different antivirus program,  that probably isn't necessary (unless you want to) - disabling it temporarily just to run system restore might be enough.

The link below shows instructions for disabling Norton so the system restore will work -  other programs may have similar instructions on their own sites.   Just be careful - no running around on the web with your antivirus turned off.

Thanks for your help. It was either Zone Alarm Firewall or Avira Free Edition AV. I replaced them with Comodo Security & all is well.
