I would guess that the CPU added to the system is not identical to the CPU in slot 1. The memory controller is on the CPU, so if CPU 1 is not functional the memory in lane B will not be functional. I suggest that you review the specifications of the old and new memory and CPU to make sure they are the same. You should also review the server manual for any information that may be relevant to moving from a single to a dual CPU configuration.

Hello, please make sure all processors are supported. Make sure all processors have the same cache size, number of cores, logical processors, and power. Make sure all processors are seated properly. The CPUs must have matching specifications. If there is a difference between the CPUs in the required specifications, the combination will not be supported.

Hi Erman,

The upgrade kit was bought from dell. they had the service tag. So we can rule out the proc mismatch. I only installed 16gb of ram on the B1 slot for the second proc. Should I test with some of the old ram already installed?Could it be that the ram doesnt allow the chanel to be initiated? And what do you mean by "Make sure all processors are seated properly". If I installed it wrongly, how can the bios detect its presence?

Hi Alexvyi, oh that's better if the POST is completed, then CPU is good I guess. It might be a DIMM issue. You can try known good DIMM. Please check below links for memory guidelines. Maybe something has been overlooked.

What did you mean by "oh that's better if the POST is completed, then CPU is good I guess"? What do you mean by POST? And one last clear questions. If the CPUs are not seated correctly, cand the BIOS detect them?In the way depicted in the above print screen?

I understand now. The server is working perfectly. I cand do whatever I want. No error at all and the BIOS can be accessed, of course. That is whats strange. NO ERRORS. The second cpu as you can see also has the green tick.. :))) My print screen is identical with the above, only that my language is english this is why I asked to see what was their solution in the end.

When the computer is first turned on, all the components must be tested and initialized by the BIOS, and the operating system must be loaded into memory. This is commonly referred to as POST (Power-On Self-Test). I explained that if the processor is not fully seated in the processor socket, you will get an error or might be no video situation during POST. But also memory is imported therefore please check your memories. What error are you getting exactly? If the POST is completed you can access the BIOS. Can you reach BIOS(system setup)?

1. Power the server down.  
2. Disconnect server from all power cables, Network cables. 
3. Hold down the power button continuously for at least 10 seconds.
