Article ID : 266787 Hard Drive Failed

I was following this article on the Web.  My system is less than 2 years old but past the one year warranty. My 500GB HD drive died.   I followed all this advise on this link hoping and hoping but I still get the 2000-0146 error.  Seagate warrants their drives for 3 years but not if purchased in a system.  Looking at this article makes me wonder if this is a common issue.  Anyone else run into this?  Any help from Dell?  I have Dell 3 laptops and a Dell desktop so I suppose we are a Dell family.  I would be nice if they would throw me a hard drive.

Unless you have a warranty in effect, I very much doubt that Dell will replace the hard drive for free, especially after the warranty has been expired about one year.

The hard drives Dell installs, are the same drives you can purchase retail, except for the warranty, this is the same as the computer's warranty.

Also, hard drives are mechanical devices and as such will fail, it's just a question of when.
