bsod issues

for the last few weeks i have been getting blue screens of death on my dimension. problem started after i tried to burn some pictures onto disk. kept saying the media was wrong. now there is intermittent bsod without using the drives. keeps saying there is a driver problem but won't give me a name.

tried roxio replacement after removing sonic. also happened using windows media player.

1) what is causing this?
2) how do i check/install new drivers system wide?

    Hi ana,

Since it is saying a driver issue, lets run a few standard steps and see if we can get the proper ones reinstalled.
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 11, article 2.
If you are getting code errors as well, example 19, 31, 32, 39, 41, then run the article we have listed in Section 12, article 10 first (same CD/RW link). If no code errors, run it last...

    Best Regards

will i need the system cd's or anything? and which codes do you mean?

it's not that the machine isn't recognizing the drive, it doesn't recognize the disk or says there is a problem with drivers. it happens without using the drives.

    Hi Ana,

No you will not need the CD`s, Windows will re-install the drivers and filters once you re-boot the system.
The system can see the devices but still have issues with the drivers, these are the standard steps Dell should walk you through if you were to contact their support.

The "drivers" are generic to your Operating System, so there really are none to update, just reinstal.
If you are referring to "firmware" then yes Dell does have updates available for your drives
    Follow this link:
    Drivers & Downloads
Enter information for your system, then scroll to Removable Media Storage Devices.

    Best Regards
