I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop that has a Sony DVD+-RW DW-D56A drive built in. Recently I tried to copy from another DVD that is NOT write protected using an external Iomega CD-RW / DVD player as the source and it failed. The external drive connects via USB. When I try to copy the DVD regardless of the software I use I get the message that the wrong type of media is in the DVD writer and that the right type needed is a CD-R. Also, when I click on my computer when the USB drive is plugged in, the internal drive, the Sony, shows as a CD Drive.

 

There are no conflicts shown and viewing each device in the device manager shows them both working properly. I am taking a DVD I burned in the drive to begin with and trying to make an exact copy.

 

Anyone else have this problem or have suggestions on solutions?
