cd and dvd not recognized?
hope you can help me? My DVD and CD rom both show errors in device manger exclamation points to be exact and they do not show up in my computer now. When i click on them on device manager it states the device driver was loaded but the hardware device isnt present CODE 41. I am able to open them and close them and on boot up they show green lights. I hav
i en't done anything physical to the PC. It seems to have happened just after I reinsatlled IPOD software. I made sure i got the windows version of the software. i am running win xp home on a dimension 8250. Someone suggested un-installing and re-installing but I couldn't find the drivers on Dell website. Hope you can help:

- I have the same problem on my Dim 4600. It's almost as if both the DVD and CDRW drives decided to stop functioning and be recognized in My Computer out of the blue.
A guy on Tech Support walked me through the Upper Filter / Lower Filter deletion procedures but seem to have done nothing....
rf21, Have you had any luck or any other solutions ? - The Upperfilters and/or Lowerfilters may corrupt or disappear during a program installation
or removal, particularly when the software is burning software. The Dell instructions are
very clear and if you follow them closely you will do no harm. Once you remove the
Upperfilters and/or Lowerfilters, they will rewrite themselves correctly upon reboot.

with the Registry Editor here ............... Neither my cd-rom or my dvd-rom is recognized when I start the computer. I get the following message, but I have done nothing to the computer- no additional software, just replaced old speakers with a surround sound.

- OK i didn't have to mess with the registry. It appears when I un-installed IPOD software it eliminated the drives and I first tried RE-Installing the IPOD software which I still use and I restarted the PC and everything is fine. I appreciate ALL the help. It sure is a bad feeling when something goes wrong and you cant figure it out, but what makes you HAPPY is knowing there are people out there willing to help. THANK YOU
