CD ROM Help

Help Please!

I have a 2400 Dimension Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition, my CD ROM keeps going out. I have to keep rebooting everytime I want to use it. There is an Exclamation point by it in the Device Manager, my warranty has expired, I've tried Windows Guided Help (It didn't solve the problem), help & support in the start menu.......

What to do with this issue?

Look in the Device Manager .............

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right-click the drive and select
Properties.  Is there an Error Code (number)?

While there, uninstall the drive and reboot to see if the exclamation point
    goes away.

Try this Article for Removing the UpperFilters and LowerFilters Values
with the Registry Editor here ...............

    Disregard the reference to Roxio.

Error message:Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
The exclamation point didn't go away. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it didn't help.
