CD-RW Drive Will Not Open
Hey ya'll,
I'm am having fits over my CD-RW drive. It will not open! I just discovered this a couple days ago, and I've gone through the One-Stop Troubleshooting, trying to get it to open. Not only will it still not open, I can't find some of the parts the manuals say are on there - like the pinhole where you can fit a straightened paperclip through. Nuh-uh.
Now if there is something that is jammed in there, how can I get it to partially open? When I press the button to get it to open, all I hear is a sort of thudding sound, like one would normally hear when the drive does open, but the tray does not pop out.
How can I get this thing to start working again?

I've never seen a CD drive that didn't have the pinhole out front. Please tell us the make and model of your drive so we can check this out. One time I put two CD's on top of each other by mistake and had a time getting the door back open once it jammed closed.244

The brand of computer is a Dimension 4500S with Windows XP Home.
The brand of CD-RW is an NEC NR-7900A, and the software is Nero Express 6.

Last night by CD Drive open and closed just fine. Now, with a CD inside, it will not open. I have also clicked on "eject" in the Roxio program, but that has not helped. I don't know if this is part of the problem, but I've been unable to burn anything onto the CD, because it says the Roxio CD Kernel is in use.
Any help on how to get my CD drive opened is appreciated.

- You can try the Dell article on the use of the Emergency Eject Button here ..............
- It's possible InCD (Nero) could be causing a problem. Go to Windows Explorer or My Computer,
right-click on the drive letter and select Eject or right-click on the InCD icon in the system
tray and select Eject if it is there.
- A driver issue can cause this pyroblem as well. Go to Device Manager and select the drive and click Uninstall or Remove, then re-boot the system. Windows will re-install the proper drivers.

The diagram you provided does not look exactly like the drive that I have. The drive that I have is recessed more into the desktop tower. There are no volume controls or headphone jack, and definitely no pinhole. The only "button" that I see that will operate the drive is a single nipple button. The headphones jack is actually hidden behind a little door about four or five inches to the left, next to the power button.43

Also, what is the drives Brand and model and what burning software do you
have installed.
