DVD Region Code

I just recieved my New 8400 and testing out the display put a DVD in the drive. I was informed that it could not play due to the Region code being different. I discovered that the drive was set to Europe. I notice we only have 5 changes. One was used by selecting Keep the code as is.

The Dvd in my 4100 plays all regions without question.

Is this restriction Software related or Drive related, and should I look to changing both as I have DVS,from other regions I have picked up while travveling.

Also WHY is the drive Default set to Europe/Asia and not the US where its purchased???

Dell doesn't allow talk of region changing programs on the forums ( worried about the DMCA ) but if you search the internet you will find products that will let you change the region code as often as you like. I believe one is called region free.
