DVD+RW

My Dimension5150/E510 has a Optiarc DVD+RW ND-3570A in the E slot. My CD Rom in the D slot works fine.  Out of the blue, the DVD+RW stopped working.  No power, no nothing.  Device Manager says "This device is working properly" but I have no power or anything.  I've opened the case and made sure all of the plugs and straps are tight.   I tried the paper click to open the drive and that doesn't work either.  Dell support says the latest drivers are installed but yet no power, no nothing.  Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

    I have an E510.

It has "power" or it wouldn't be shown as "working properly" in the Device Manager.

The drive door will open with the manual release (paper clip) whether it has or does not have power.  Since it won't open it suggests the tray is jammed.  If it's jammed the best suggestion is to replace it.  A PATA (IDE) CD/DVD burner drive can be purchased for about $20 at www.newegg.com (where I buy most of my PC parts).  HERE is a Liteon CD/DVD burner that even has Lightscribe disc label writing capability for $22.99 plus shipping.  There are others listed in the same general price range.

My E510 came with that same model drive.  It is an NEC, not Optiarc.

Be sure to set the jumper on the replacement drive to the Cable Select (CSEL or CS) position .....

Thanks, I thought it may have been dead.  I am ordering a new one.  Thanks again.

I know I signed off on this post but are there any easy suggestions to pulling the old unit out and connecting the new one?
