ok i posted the problems i had a while back. the computer runs super slow all the time, takes 10min to boot. was told by best buy it could be motherboard, people on here said its overheating/harddrive, and ive heard memory problem. heres a list of stuff that ive noted wrong:
-I ran hitachi drive fitness test, it would freeze on the advanced, the quick test passed.
-dell diagnostics took over 2 hrs for just the ide disk confidence test.
-when i startup in Safe mode computer boots faster, still lags a little but not as bad.
-i ran scandisk it took over an hour once it got to Phase 4.
-i ran i8fangui computer runs about 44c
so i think it would be harddrive...? some smartass at work is saying im wrong, and its memory problem and insists that he fixes my girlfriends because he is going to college to do computer science... i have a friend that said he will take out the harddrive and try it on his computer to see if thats the problem.
when it comes to the speed, i would recommend you to upgrade the memory of your computer. cause adding more ramm will actually increase the speed of the system. it enhances the full performance of your computer and it releases your pc's full potential specially when running memory intensive applications. if you have lots of pictures saved in your hd, games and stuff. memory will be the solution to your problem. if you have loads of programs, music and pics in your hd, and you think you need more space to save more files, you may also consider upgrading your hd. BUT if youre main concern is just the speed, adding more or upgrading the memory will help you a lot. =)
I just had this problem. Technical support told me it was the hard drive and I didn't believe them because I have NEVER had a hard drive go bad in this way or heard of one prior to this. (It still doesn't sound right to me, but the results are proof enough)
I check the SP2 settings, and the CPU speed up patch with no effect, finally reformatted the system and while it was barely functional it was awful. I couldn't do a complete format, only the quick format while reinstalling.
I bought a hard drive at Comp USA, had it formatted and fully reinstalled within 3 hours.
