HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4482 NOT WORKING

I'm new to the forum and new to trying to fix problems by myself but I'm willing to learn. I have a Dimenson 1100/B110 desktop and this is my second dell to have this problem. My Inspiron lap top did the same thing about a month ago and to tell you the truth, I can't afford to have to pay again to have this one fixed. I sure would appreciate someone who could walk me through the steps to reset or fix it so the darn thing will work.

Thanks in Advance.

We're happy to help, but even if you had to replace the entire drive, it should not cost much.

Please describe the problems you are having. Are you not able to read and/or write? What type of discs (CD, DVD, DVD+R, DVD-R, etc.). If you open device manager (Right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware tab, Device manager), and expand CD/DVD drives, do you see any errors listed for your drive? Does the drive appear in My Computer?

Hi, thanks for such a quick response.
Not able to read or write and I used to be able to burn and play cd's and dvd's. When I open the device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark in the box. when I double click on it I get an error message "cannot load the device driver fot this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)"

That problem can usually be solved by following these instructions.

    Good luck!

Well, that worked fine except now it keeps telling me there is no disc in the drive. Any idea's what I need to do now. LOL I'm just about to give it up. I can get a disc to open but can't copy data from my computer to a disc. I'm sorry to be such a pain.

You may need to reinstall your burning program.
