not regconizing blank dvd

Hopeing for some help here. I have an Inspiron 1150 with the factory installed cd/dvd burner.  I can burn cds, and I can read and copy dvds however when I go to burn the dvd, the compture does not recog. that there is a blank dvd+R in there. I have tried several brands of dvd+/-Rs none of which has helped. Any suggestions or help would be wonderful.  Thanks to all

BUMP... I have the exact same problem.

Do you know of a solution to my NEC 8x dvd+rw (ND-6100A) not being abel to recognize blank DVD+R's in the drive.  Because of this problem I am unable to burn DVDs, but CD-r's and CDrw's work fine.

    Thank you in advance.

Please let me know what you find out. My Inspiron (with the NEC ND-5100A Firmware 10AC) started having the same problem yesterday. Went to burn a DVD, plugged in a blank disk and nothing. The drive does not recognize that there is a disk in it at all. I am able to play and burn cd-r's though. Tried several different brands of dvd disks, a few store bought movies and it is unable to read any of them.

Moved the drive to another Inspiron I have and it has the same problem in that laptop to. I have noticed over the past few days that I would sometimes have to reinsert the blank dvd disk a few times before the drive would read it but didn't think much of the problem because I had just bought a new roll of memorex 4x dvd disks. Guess that meant the drive was going belly up I suppose.

Wrote an email to tech support yesterday but have not heard anything out of them yet. Is this normal now? Last two times the drive went bad, I usually got a reply from them within 3-4 hours of sending an email.

Kinda hacks a person off. You spend $2000 on a laptop and this will be the third drive that has went bad in the thing. Looks like Dell could put a better quality drive in their machines.

    Thanks,

    Steve

I spoke to tech support yesterday, but no solution was found other than trying to reinstall windows and everything else..... I DON"T THINK SO!  I am going to keep on pestering tech support everyday until someone can give me a real answer.  Please keep me updated with any solution you come up with, as I will do the same.

Just curious... are you using Nero or Alchohol 120%?

    Me.
