Problem With Computer Recognizing New HDD

2 Days Ago I brought a Western Digital "EIDE" Hard Drive 160gb for more space, and as a backup Harddrive for my Computer. I have a Dimesion 4700, that came with a 30 gb (it's Sata) HDD. I had to buy a Ultra ATA/133 PCI Add-On because I didn't have a slot open to connect the 40pin cable because of my Cd & DVD Drives.....Ok. So now that all of that is put together inside of my computer.

My computer does not even recognize that I have put the new Hard Drive in there (my main one is still in there. I just want a extra hard drive.) When I check the Disk Management I only see my 30gb hdd, and the Cd Rom Drives... I've read that I could check BIOS, but when I go in there

and look at the "devices" it looks similar to this

Device 0- (my 30gb harddrive)
Device 1-  NONE
Device 2- CD-Rom
Device 3- CD DVD-RW

My new hdd is hooked up, and I'm pretty lost what I could do. Could anyone please lend me some knowledge on this? I've contacted support for Western Digital, but they've yet to respond to my mail.

Thanks Very Much for anyone who reads.
I appreciate it.

Does the BIOS on the controller see the drive? You should see its screen come up when you start the system - hit the TAB key to shrink the splash screen so you can see it.

I Suppose that it isn't reading, The Computer installed the drives, and such, and I went into my Control Panel and went to the device, and clicked on it, and these blank spots came up.. If this is what you were talking about

Is the new drive jumpered properly (usually master or slave, not the cable select that the mainboard controller uses?

According to My  manual for the Hard drive it says :

1: If Installing Your new Western Digital hard drive as the only device on the cable, Use the Single Setting (No Jumper Shunt required)  - Which this is the one I'm doing...No Jumper.

    The Others' say:

2:If Installing Your new Western Digital hard drive as the Master device on the cable with two IDE drives, use the Master SettingSetting

3:If Installing Your new Western Digital hard drive as the Secondary device on the use the Slave Setting.

This Hard Drive is the only one I have on the 40 Pin Connector, My Other HDD has a totally different Connection, I suppose because it's SATA correct?

But this New One is connected like So..

Blue 40 Pin                                                     Gray 40 Pin                                              Black 40 Pin
(Connected to Ultra PCI-Addon-----------------  None------------------------------------ (Connected to HDD)

Did you go to "Computer Management" to partition and format the drive? The computer will not recognise it until it is done. The instructions should have told you to do so. WD HD's come with a CD that will take you through this. If it is an OEM drive the instructions may not come with it. You can go to the WD site and download the software.

Yeah I have the manual (and Im using EIDE)...Thats the reason I came here really because I went through it, and am still having problems....In The Computer Management, It doesn't even see the new Harddrive in there. The only things that it show is my 30gb hdd, and my 2 Cd Drives...I'm going to take a look inside my computer, and make sure everything is connected right.

Do you have the WD installation disk? If not go to WD and download it.

Yeah I have tried the the Disc... When I click on "Set Up Your Hard Drive" I get a Message saying:

"Data Lifeguard Tools has detected that the only drive in your system is the Windows drive. Data lifeguard Tools for Windows will not allow you to set up your windows drive. If You wish to set up your Windows drive, You may use Data Lifeguard for DOS."

Mannnn this is frustrating, It's a brand new hard drive so I have no idea what's wrong. I've hooked up my CD Rom & DVD Drive to the Ata Adapter to see if it was the adapter not working, but those 2 started up perfectly, but on the other hand...I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I turn on my computer, there's a screen acknowledging it, and it says:

    "Sil 0680 ATA/133 Controller BIOS Version 3.2.10
Copyright (c) 1997-2003 Silicon Image Inc.

Press f3 to Enter Configuration Ulitity"

((When I press this I get this message:))

    "Network boot Not available-
strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for the setup utility"

F1 Will just repeat that message, and f2 sends me to The Deminsion 4700 Setup spot. lol...I feel like I have a "unsolvable" problem.
