Regional Settings

Maybe someone can help me, I have a Inspiron 8000 with a LG DVD-ROM DRN8080B.  I travel alot due to my work and I have changed my regional settings up to 5 times and now I can't play a dvd. No problems playing CD but can't play DVD's.  Is there anyway around this problem? Please let me know. Thank you for you time.

    cajumbubs,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

Unfortunately, it would not be within the rules for someone here to help you with that issue, besides to tell you that you could reinstall your operating system.

Reinstalling the OS wouldn't help, the limitation is in the Firmware of the drive.

    cajunbubs,

Listen to jk79 and the Dell moderator.  Reinstall the operating system (firmware) of your DVD-ROM.  This is just one option you have with the LG DRN8080B.  Two other options for the DRN8080B are ###CENSORED###.  Good luck!

    Dell Corey

I have tried just about everything from reloading OS to visiting LG web site and they say to check with dell.....I don't think there is anything wrong with the unit but I guess that will be my next step to replace it. I just wanted to say thank you for your time and advise....take care

Forum rules prevent us from going into detail, but if you google DVD firmware, you should find relevant information.

After reading all of the threads about regional settings I would like to have someone explain just what they are and what not to do when the Dell Media player askes me if I want to change regions.  I always say no.

And does this apply to my home DVD/VHS player or does it just refer to computers?  On my DVD/VHS player  I am never told that I have to change settings to play a DVD that was made in Canada.  I have several Canadian DVD's as my son is a DOP and many of his movies are made in Canada and not released in the US.   How do I find out what region they are made to be played in.

    Thank you.
