I have a 600m that is less than a week old.  While installing software I am noticing that the file copy stage is ridiculously slow relative to other computers.  For example, Office XP takes nearly 10 minutes to complete the file copy, relative to the usual one minute or so.  I did a search across the forum and found the follow suggestions:

1) CD drive performance may be dependant on media type

2) Slow drive performance can be caused by dirty media

3) Slow performance may be remedied by removing the drive from the device manager and allowing windows to re-add the device

I know none of these issues is at play in my case (OEM pressed media that is clean is being used on a system that is brand new).  I also have a Precision m50 that exhibits similar behavior when playing DVDs back.  On that computer I found that adjusting the Power Scheme (or plugging the system in instead of operating off battery), at least, at first.  Now that system is chronically plagued with jittery playback that makes movies unintelligible (a half second of video plays about about every three seconds).  You can hear the drive spinning up and back down again.  I am observing the same behavior on this brand new system.

Has anyone had a similar experience?  Does anyone know it to be related to power settings?  Are there additional suggestions I could try?
