Missing "Dell Client Management Service"

Trying to run Support Assist to stay up to date with my drivers and I noticed I'm missing "Dell Client Management Service". Does anybody have a way for me to get that back? My operating system is Microsoft Windows 10 Home, and it's for my Dell G5 15 5590 Laptop.

Hey @ale2x72  I am experiencing the exact same problem as you. Did everything but wasn't able to get my dell management services back. Can you please let me know what you did. I dont care about support assist working anymore I just want the dell management service to be appearing in services so that I can use the dell update software and the alienware AWCC. I have spent hours and hours on internet but wasnt able to find a solution. Your thread is the most accurate description of my situation

    Hi j a:

If you open your Windows Services is your Dell Client Management Service (or Alienware Client Management Service) listed there, and if so does that service have a Status of "Running"?  Here's an old image I captured in April 2025 when I was testing Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0 on my Inspiron 15 5584 laptop.

In many cases simply uninstalling and reinstalling your Dell/Alienware Update software solves this problem because the reinstall should add a fresh copy of the Dell/Alienware Client Management Service back to your system if it's been accidentally deleted or corrupted.

If you require further assistance post back and let us know your Dell computer model, the version and OS build number of your Windows operating system [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver], and the full name and version number of your current Dell Update software (e.g., Alienware Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0, Dell Command | Update v5.7.0, etc.) listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.

    Hi @lmacri
I am currently using a Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition running Windows 11 Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8524) with BIOS version 1.310, and I am completely stuck trying to get my Dell softwares to function. Initially, SupportAssist was failing to install, so I followed a troubleshooting video and entirely deleted all Dell services from my system to start fresh. Unfortunately, this created a larger problem: now my Alienware Command Center (AWCC) will not install, and my Dell Update app (version 5.50) refuses to run. Whenever I attempt to use them, I receive a specific error stating, "The Dell Client Management Service is required," and checking my Windows Services confirms that absolutely no Dell services are currently present on my system. I have tried installing multiple different versions of the Dell Update app in an attempt to restore the missing services, but the exact same error popup appears every single time.

I am completely stuck trying to get my Dell softwares to function.

    Hi j a:

Has your Dell service warranty expired yet?

Every time I try to view the details for a software program or hardware driver on the support page for your Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition at https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/g-series-15-5515-laptop/drivers (e.g., to view the latest available version for your Dell G15 5515 System BIOS) I get a message saying "Something went wrong!! Try again after few mins!!" so there must be a temporary problem with the Dell support site.  I'll try again tomorrow.

In the mean time could you go to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features and let us know:

    • The full name of your Dell Update v5.5.0 utility (e.g., Dell Update for Windows Universal)
    • The version of your Microsoft Windows .NET Desktop Runtime, if present (since v8.0.x is a pre-requisite for most Dell Update v5.5.0 utilities)

From my Inspiron 15 5584 / Win 10 laptop if I search Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features for "runtime":

NOTE: After installation, .NET Desktop Runtimes will not have the word “.NET” in the program name.

my Dell Update app (version 5.50) refuses to run. Whenever I attempt to use them, I receive a specific error stating, "The Dell Client Management Service is required," ... I have tried installing multiple different versions of the Dell Update app in an attempt to restore the missing services, but the exact same error popup appears every single time.

To find the correct Dell Update edition that Dell recommends for your system go to your Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition support page at https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/g-series-15-5515-laptop/drivers, choose “Select Drivers“, click the “This Device” tab, and enter your unique Service Tag.  I suspect the best match for your system will be the Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0 application released on 30-Jun-2025.

NOTE: Entering your Service Tag on the “This Device” tab will display a filtered list of Dell software and hardware drivers that are compatible with your Windows OS and system components.  However, some of those matching Dell software programs and hardware drivers might already be installed on your system, and others might be unnecessary bloat that you don’t want to install.  When you look for available updates this way it is your responsibility to check Device Manager and/or Settings | Apps first to see what hardware driver and/or Dell software versions are already installed on your system.

I am currently using a Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition running Windows 11 Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8524) with BIOS version 1.310

This may not be relevant to your problem, but your OS Build 26200.8524 suggests you installed the Win 11 v25H2 KB5089573 Preview for your monthly Quality update released on 26-May-2026. You should avoid installing Windows Preview/Insider builds since they are released by Microsoft for beta testing and often contain bugs that can negatively affect system stability. Under normal circumstances you should only install Microsoft's "stable" cumulative monthly updates released on Patch Tuesdays on the second Tuesday of the month.  Coincidentally, the June 2026 Patch Tuesday occurs tomorrow on 09-Jun-2026.

    Hi @lmacri

    To answer your questions:

    • Warranty Status: Yes, my warranty has expired. I have been using this laptop for over three years now, so it is well beyond the expiration date.

    • Software & .NET Versions: All of my software and drivers are fully updated. In fact, some are even more up-to-date than what the Dell support site currently lists for my specific device under the "This Device" section. I know that the .NET runtime can often be the culprit here, but I have already installed multiple required versions (which you can see in my screenshot). That does not seem to be the issue.

    • Windows 11 Preview Build: I am aware that the OS build I am currently on is a beta/preview update. However, this Dell services issue has been bothering me for over a month now. I only installed this beta build two days ago hoping it might somehow trigger a fix. It didn't change anything, though it hasn't caused any new problems either.

    • Registry & Services: I have already gone deep into the system and completely deleted the registry keys for the previous Dell Client Management Service, Dell TechHub, SupportAssist, etc., hoping a truly clean slate would solve it. It didn't work. As you can see from my Services tab screenshot, there is not a single Dell service present on my machine.

I have done all of these troubleshooting steps multiple times now and I am still completely stuck. I honestly don't know what the root problem is at this point.

@j a as I said in my last message, I went for the nuclear option and reinstalled Windows from scratch:

After trying all your suggestions (sadly, to no avail - even a repair install reverted back with an error after arriving to 90% installation) I finally decided to reset the PC for good. That worked, even though right after reinstalling WIndows 11 from the cloud (I got version 23H2) SupportAssist did not start, so I had to follow the uninstall/reinstall procedure, after which things worked as expected.

But, before doing something so drastic, I suggest you follow @lmacri 's advices, maybe you are luckier than me and can pinpoint the issue.

    Best of luck,

    A.

Registry & Services: I have already gone deep into the system and completely deleted the registry keys for the previous Dell Client Management Service, Dell TechHub, SupportAssist, etc., hoping a truly clean slate would solve it. It didn't work. As you can see from my Services tab screenshot, there is not a single Dell service present on my machine.

    Hi j a:

There are several Dell programs like Dell Update, Dell SupportAssist, etc. that share components like Dell Core Services and Dell Client Management Service.  If you uninstall one program (e.g., Dell SupportAssist) this can remove one or more of those shared components, corrupting multiple Dell programs.

For example, the clean reinstall instructions in the support article Dell SupportAssist for PCs and Tablets Installation Issue and companion video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOkgM3JUpHM should be safe to use if the reinstall of Dell SupportAssist restores all those shared components, but if you don't follow those instructions exactly as written or something goes wrong during the reinstall you could end up corrupting multiple Dell programs. By going into your services and registry and manually deleting any traces of your Dell programs you've probably done more harm than good.

Software & .NET Versions: ... I know that the .NET runtime can often be the culprit here, but I have already installed multiple required versions (which you can see in my screenshot). That does not seem to be the issue.

There was also no need to install multiple .NET (Core) Runtimes and .NET Desktop Runtimes.  For example the release notes <here> for the current Dell SupportAssist v5.1.x specifically state that .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x. is the required pre-requisite and that "Desktop Runtime versions other than 8.0.x are not supported". AFAIK the .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x is also the specific pre-requisite required for Dell Update v5.5.0.

NOTE: The .NET Runtime v8.0 download page at https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/8.0 also states that .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.27 "includes the .NET Runtime; you don't need to install it separately".

Your image of your .NET Runtimes raises serious concerns.  You have two outdated versions of .NET .Desktop Runtime 8.0.x - namely, v8.0.22 (installed 07-Jun-2026) and v8.0.24 (installed 26-Feb-2026). I'm not sure how its even possible to have two different versions of .NET .Desktop Runtime 8.0.x installed at the same time (especially when the current v8.0.27 was released on 12-May-2026) but the presence of both those outdated .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.x versions suggests that your Windows Update, Windows system files, and/or Windows registry is corrupted.

    From the C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.WindowsDesktop.App folder on my Inspiron 15 5584 / Win 10 computer:

Today (09-Jun-2026) is Patch Tuesday and a new Win 11 v25H2 monthly cumulative Quality update (and possibly a new .NET .Desktop Runtime 8.0.28 update) are due to be released later today, so I'd suggest you wait a day or two to see if Windows Update automatically installs your June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates.  If it doesn't then your problems go far beyond a few corrupt Dell utilities.

In the mean time please go to Settings | Apps, search for "dell", and post an image of all the Dell applications currently installed on your system.  Then search for "alien" and see if any additional Alienware applications are found, and if so post an image of those applications as well.  Once I know what Dell/Alienware apps are currently installed on your system I might be able to provide instructions that at least gets Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0 running again, but if your Windows or Windows system files are corrupted that isn't your top priority.

After your June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates are installed you should also run DISM and System File Checker (SFC) scans to see if they detect any problems with your Windows component store and/or system files.  First, open an elevated command prompt with Administrator rights and enter the command DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth.  If that scan does not detect any problems with your component store then run the command SFC /scannow to see if it can detect and repair any issues with your system files.  If either of those scans detects a problem post back and let us know what message it displayed.  See the Malwarebytes article Using SFC and DISM to Correct File Corruption for more information about these scans.  From my Win 10 v22H2 computer:

Software & .NET Versions: All of my software and drivers are fully updated. In fact, some are even more up-to-date than what the Dell support site currently lists for my specific device under the "This Device" section.

Do you have a Home or Professional edition of Win 11 v25H2 [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver], and do you use Windows Update and/or an app from the manufacturer (e.g., Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, Realtek etc.) to update your hardware drivers and firmware?

I generally advise that users install the custom hardware drivers and firmware recommended on the support page for their Dell computer model that match their Service Tag and are certified to work with their Dell BIOS. Dell users who install the latest hardware drivers and firmware offered by Windows Update and/or the hardware manufacturer's support site sometimes find this makes their system unstable – for example, see fabioluzo’s 15-May-2024 Vostro 3520 keeps crashing about problems they encountered after installing Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers that were not certified for their Dell BIOS.

    Hi j a:

Just FYI, I believe the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates released yesterday on 09-Jun-2026 included three updates that should be automatically delivered to your Win 11 v25H2 computer if your Windows Update is working correctly:

    • KB5094126: 2026-06 Cumulative Update for Win 11 Version 25H2 for x64 (OS Build 26200.8655)
    • KB5097149: 2026-06 .NET 8.0.28 for x64 Client (which should automatically remove the previous .NET 8.0.27 version)
    • KB890830 : Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – v5.142 (listed under "Other Updates" in your Windows Update history)

AFAIK there were no updates released this Patch Tuesday for the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11 Version 25H2 for x64.  All your .NET v5.0 and .NET v6.0.x Runtimes reached end of support and no longer receive security updates.

and it won't connect to the drivers?
it won't even load to the online webpage version because it uses that service to collect the information to search for whats already on your system?
