DMC Discovery Does NOT Find Servers

I am probably mising something basic here as this is the first attempt at deploying the Dell Management Console, which by the way has awful install requirements (when is IE 8 Support arriving?).  I have the DMC up and running on one server but when I run the Discovery Tool it does not find any of my dell servers, I have selected the subnet they are on and since it is local it should all be visible from the server.  I have Open Manager Server Administrator installed and running on all of the servers, which are running Windoes Server 2003 R2 x64 if that matters.  I thought that was all that is needed to at least get the discovery to work.  Also I think this may matter but the servers are not in an Active Directory Domain.  Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are trying to discover using SNMP, configure the SNMP service on one of your target servers so that the destination IP address is the IP for your DMC box, and make sure the commnunity name matches on both systems.

Thanks for the help you were completely right, I had forgotten I had changed the SNMP community names.

    Thanks Jeff

Yep, all correct.  Also here is my pre-canned answer on this, even though I'm late to the game here.

    SNMP/Unknown

Your Dell  servers need to be classified as “Dell Computer” to be properly managed.  You can check this under the device tree from Manage | All Devices | Servers.  If the servers are showing up as unknown or Computer, you have to do some configuration on the managed nodes (targets).

    1.       You must have Server Administrator (OMSA) on the managed node.

    2.       You must have SNMP properly configured on the managed node.  (Accept packets from any host (or named host, in this case, DMC box).

    3.       Check your snmp read community string.  Be aware that it is case sensitive and should match the one used in the Connection Profile of your DMC discovery wizard task.

    4.       Try using this SNMP configuration test tool to confirm the config of your managed node.

    5.       If none of these steps help, you may try creating a new Discovery wizard task with just a single IP address of one of the failing servers.  That might help debugging.

P.S. I generally spend my time over in the DMC specific forum.  So you may consider using this for any new posts.  Thx!
