OpenManage architecture question

I know that this is a simple question but I could not find a clear answer to this searching through the documentation.

 

I want to have my PowerEdge servers send alerts to my e-mail account when events occur. From what I have read so far I will be able to do this using the OpenManage IT Assistant.

 

I currently have the OpenManage Server Administrator installed on each of my servers. Would I need to install just one instance of IT Administrator to send e-mail alerts for all of the servers?

 

Also, these servers are installed at a Co-Located site. I do not have other machines setup which I could install the IT Assistant on. I read some posts which said that it is not advisable to install the IT Assistant on servers running applications. Is this true?

    I'll answer what I can. You are correct that you would use IT Assistant. You are also correct that one IT Assistant server would be able to monitor/notify for all your servers. If you have a really slow WAN link between your remote sites you may see some "host down" false alarms but it should still work. I think you can actually adjust the acceptable delay. You will also need to setup the SNMP services on the servers so that they send SNMP traps to your IT Assistant server. The install guide should help you with most of the snmp stuff and notification stuff
