OpenManage for Dummies
Can someone point me to a URL or document that clearly spells out what all the different OpenManage components do?
There''s SUU, BUU, SBU, SMC, SMA, Management Stations and Managed Nodes, etc., etc.
I'd like a simplified list of fuctions and solutions.
If you want to make sure all your drivers and firmwares are current, download a file with this code - SUU (or whatever)
if you want to manage a single stand-alone system, download this file
if you want to manage multiple systems from one server, load this file on the server and load this on the remote systems.
etc., etc.
either i'm not searching the support site effectively, or dell has not made it easy to find explanatory documentation.
Thanks

Thanks for posting! I'm not sure if such a document exists, but it does sound like a good idea. Here is the short version:
OMSA - aka OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node is a program that you install on one server. It has a command line interface for DRAC cards. It can help troubleshoot that server and includes the SNMP agent to send SNMP traps to another system such as...
ITA - aka OpenManage Management Station is a SNMP monitoring utility that takes SNMP traps from OMSA, DRACs, and other Dell hardware and turns them into emails or alert messages. It also can push updates for drivers and firmware to systems.
DRAC - aka Dell Remote Access Controller, ERA, or ERA/O, is usually an add-in card that allows console redirection, virtual media, and other out of band management functions. Different DRACs have different degrees of those functions. Any given server can at most take one kind of DRAC, and some aren't compatible with any DRAC.
SUU - Replaced by the Dell Server Updates Disk, runs inside the OS, updates firmwares and drivers.
SBUU - Systems Build and Update Utility, replaced by the System Management Tools and Documentation Disk, provides a pre-OS install environment. It can provide a pre-install of OMSA, and a bootable environment to update firmware with the Dell Server Updates disk.
DSA - aka Dell Server Assistant is the older SBUU, with no firmware update function.
That's most of it...
