I have a PE2800 it came with 4 CDs. First lets start with the "bootable" CD: Installation and Server Management V4.4 (includes both DELL OpenManage Server Assistant & Administrator).
After the P.O.S.T., the CD takes over and get the message "S.A. 1......, etc. and uncompressing Linux....... replication..... ," something along these lines and then the screen changes and after a while the DELL interface shows but I cannot read anything. there are plenty of options, but the resolution is so high that it's completely unreadable. ok fastforward to my latest try.... I downloaded:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R125638&SystemID=PWE_PNT_2800&os=WNET&osl=en&deviceid=10655&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=4&formatcnt=1&libid=36&fileid=169134
and burned it onto a CD. tried to boot from it and success, I can now read the screen and configure everything and go until the last step and it starts at 0% to start the OS installation, but just stops at 34% completion and hangs there. Any help and.or input us greatly appreciated.
Never had this problem myself, but that would normally seem to be around the percentage it will ask for the OS disk so try inserting that, it should carry on copying automatically if is going to work.
It's really weird actually because it just stops at 34% with the OpenManage CD and the only thing I could do is force the server to shut down (no rebooting or ejecting CD). I put a paperclip to eject the CD and insert the Win2003 CD, but still nothing.
I don't know if this is a glitch or what, really weird.
I ended up having to install the OS w/o the Dell CD.
I wonder what would've happened if you had tried to use a different CD burner. Perhaps it didn't write a few of the last blocks on the CD. Who knows....
