You should be able to close apps by swiping down, although it is slightly finicky on my device.    Doesn't work at all?   Try swiping down a bit slower - really fast doesn't work for me either.

Also you can see the app being picked up and dragged down the screen but finger reaches bottom border before the app can minimize and be dragged off the bottom. This action happens about halfway down the screen in portrait mode.

No luck. The touch trail is clearly visible and the "border crossing" clearly works as the bottom bar is triggered. However, all works fine in portrait mode. This suggests a firmware/OS issue rather than a physical touchscreen problem as the pattern/motion is not being interpreted correctly. System claims to be up-to-date.

That is consistent with the experience I have on my XPS 10.   Once you drag the app down, it minimizes into a window and you can then flick it off the screen (downward) to close it, or flick it to the side for side by side view with two apps.   I tried this on a Microsoft Surface as well and find the experience to be essentially consistent between both devices.

Ahhh! My firmware is A00 11/09/12. However, can't see how I can update it. Should I be offered it if I enter my service tag on the support site?

I'm at the latest possible updates - Bios A02, 12/05/12, OS Version 6.2.9200.    There are no updates available when I check Windows Update.

No, connect to WIFI and swipe in from the right, then tap Settings, Change PC Settings, Windows Update, Check for Updates now.

That should pull in the latest and greatest.   you might have to repear more than once to get completely up to date.   Restart after they install if you aren't prompted...

That's updated RT (yesterday's patch Tuesday) but doesn't detect/install the BIOS update. I suspect the latter is the cause of my gesture problem. Is there another way of getting the BIOS updated?
