Disk Cleanup

When I try to schedule Disk cleanup I get this error :

The new task has been created, but may not run because the account information could not be set.
The specific error is:
0x80070005: Access is denied.
Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application.

What is wrong that I can not run Disk cleanup?

I don't believe that I can be of help to you, but I have a question for you to clarifiy a point... which might make it easier for someone else to respond here:

does this problem occur only when you attempt to schedule Disk Cleanup through the Scheduled Tasks folder/program ?

or do you also get this error when you simply try to directly run Disk Cleanup by clicking on it itself?

This only happens through the folder to Scheduled Tasks folder/program .  This is a new computer.

This is a new computer under warranty, shouldn't I be able to set the schedule just like the other schedules tasks?

Yes, you SHOULD be able to set-up and run scheduled tasks, regardless of how new (or old) a computer is.

the point of my question... is that you've now determined that the problem is NOT with the Disk Cleanup program, in and of itself... but rather, either with your Scheduled Tasks program/folder, or with the combination of Scheduled Tasks specifically running Disk Cleanup.

are you able to schedule (and run) OTHER tasks successfully?

again, while I myself can't help you, hopefully, by pin-pointing the matter, others will be able to assist you more readily.

I tried doing a web-search, and located the following information...

you didn't indicate what operating system you're using... but since you said it was new, i have to assume probably XP.... if, in fact, you've upgraded to Service Pack 2 (SP2) or you've installed the update #841873 as described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-022, you may find the following page relevant to your problem:

i don't know how "computer saavy" you are, but hopefully, you can make sense of all the stuff there.

                               *********

if that doesn't work, i found the following suggestion on a different web page...  quoting:

Under Scheduled Tasks, double click the name of the p rogram you are
trying to run to bring up the dialog box.
    Select the Task tab
Ensure that the box "Run only if logged on" is checked (the other box
    should already be checked)

I don't know if that will help either, but it sure seems like a simple-enough thing to try.
