Neophite needs help. System 8400, XP w/ Service pack 2 (Christmas present). Been all over the internet before I realized I shouldn't have been all over. Running McAfee Security Center which detected Eploit ByteVerify Trojan. McAfee Virus scan listed 2. MicroTrend listed 6 but wouldn't clean. Downloaded SpyBot which found 16 and deleted 11. The five remaining (which SpyBot doesn't remove) are Data Source object exploits:
What are these? SpyBot indicated they were from Microsoft. If I need to get rid of these (sense tells me I don't cause McAfee and the new Microsoft Spyware that I just downloaded and ran didn't list them) - again, if I need to rid, how do I rid?
I really know very very little about computers so any help is GREATLY appreciated.
The DSO Exploit finding in Spybot 1.3 has been a problem since that version was first released. Spybot keeps finding the same items over and over, even when you tell it to fix them because of a bug. The fix doesn't apply because of a small error in the program.
Basically, anyone who has their system patched via Windows Update can ignore this Spybot finding. All it's trying to do is set an IE security setting to "disabled", but the bug is preventing that registry change from being applied. That thread explains various work-arounds for anyone who wants to do something about it themselves rather than waiting for a Spybot fix.
