Click HERE to download a self-extractable version of HijackThis.

• Double click on hijackthis.exe to extract hijackthis to folder c:\hijackthis.
• It will extract it to that folder and open the folder for you.
• It will also create a shortcut on your desktop to HijackThis.

I'm curious. From where were you downloading updates when this happened?

I was downloading updates to my virus protection that I had. It wasn't included in the update software, but it popped up while I was updating. I assumed it was another update for downloading.

What anti-virus program do you use and how many anti-virus programs do you use?

I was using Grisoft AVG and Adaware Anti-spyware. But since this thing happened, I purchased Norton 2007.

"Adaware Anti-spyware" ??? Is this Lavasoft's product?

Yes, it is. But the iesecuritybar wasn't in their packages. I was dowloading their updates, and having problems with AVG when the extra window came up for the iesecuritybar. I assumed it was part of these or part of a new internet explorer security package since it had a message about spyware.

You probably either had that on your computer before the updates, and it was coincidence that it popped up at that time, or you had a DNS hijacker trying to connect while you were updating. Perhaps that is why you were having "problems with AVG". Keep an eye on things, and if you have new problems just follow the advice above to post a HijackThis log. Good luck. :)

Here is my HiJack This Log. Some problems I have now is that I can't install Internet Explorer 6 or 7. When I'm online, sometimes the browser will close if I click on something within a window (i.e. "delete" and "inbox" in email programs). I don't know why it says I have IE7, as I don't.
