Need help, please look at my HJT log!
Hello,
Heres the story, my wife's computer (Dimension 4550) was working fine this morning. Surfing the internet with no problems. We went out to run a few errands and when we returned to click on Internet Explorer, we got the "The page cannot be displayed" message. The web address it was trying to go to was very, very long. So we ran Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper. It picked out alot of items, I mean alot, I know a virus (trojan) was forced into the system during the time we were out running errands. We finally got the web address bar to return to our original setting (home page) but we are still getting the "The page cannot be displayed" message. The cable modem is powered up, recieving data from cable, and has a connection the PC. I went into the "internet options" tab and did the "windows help" suggested I do, but still getting the same message. Did a little research here on the forums and went to majorgeeks.com and downloaded hijackthis. Please if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Here is the log from hijackthis:

flytalon,
Let's do a little cleanup first...
- Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove anything that it finds.
- Run AdAware SE Personal and Spybot S&D, and allow them to cleanup any registry entry(s) that HiJackThis couldn't fix, left behind from the 'infection'.
- We'll 'flush' your system restore points after we resolve your Internet Explorer issues.
Next, check both Nortons firewall (if your running it), ZoneAlarm and the SP2 firewall (if your running it), and make sure Internet Explorer isn't being blocked, along with any system related files; check the "Programs" section of each.
If your running more than one firewall, just use one.
Next, open a command line and enter the following:
ping www.dell4me.com
ping 143.166.83.21
Go to "Network Connections" and right-click on the icon that represents your current internet connect, then select "Repair".
Post back the results.
Mike.

Hey Mike, thanks for tip on the blocking internet traffic with the firewall, I never knew Norton can do that.
Well, I did everything that was posted, but still the same message. Heres a new HJT log after all the steps:

Mike,
Well I ran spybot, adware se and cc clean up. Computer seems to be more responsive now. I did disable the norton firewall and what do you know, I have internet again. But when I enable it, I get the message. I am thinking about uninstalling norton firewall and just running ZoneAlarm firewall. What do you think?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,Good work! That sounds just fine, one firewall is really all you need. If your really into firewalls though, Norton's is more configurable than the free version of ZA (which is what I use on my desktop).Later, you might consider adding an extra layer by using a hardware router(firewall), mine is a Linksys, and they run aournd $40 - $50 retail.Happy surfing,Mike.Reply Midnight Star

Steve,
Let's go ahead and 'flush' out your system restores points, to finish the cleanup. If there are more than one user account on your pc, i'd also recommend checking each account for any of resident 'problems' we've just fixed.
Mike.

Steve,
Disable, then re-enable System Restore. Then i'd immediately create a new one manually, just name it anything you'd like.

Mike,
Thanks a million. I disabled, then enabled it. Created a manual restore point and all is good. Love this forum.

When you step out, consider 'halting' all internet access with your firewall, then 'allowing' it when you return. Also, if you have any questions at all before you begin, please feel free to post back.
-----
First, let's get HiJackThis in it's own folder ( C:\HJT ) and out of the temporary download folder. We're going to 'flush' the temp files when where done, and we'll lose not only the program, but the backups it creates as well.
Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
-----
Next, go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) then following, if present:
Windows AdControl
Windows TaskAD
SearchAssistant
MyWebSearch
-----
Next, run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/ymsgr6/*http://www.yahoo.com/ext/search/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sp/ymsgr6/*http://www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/ymsgr6/*http://www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/ymsgr6/*http://www.yahoo.com/ext/search/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/sp/ymsgr6/*http://www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/ymsgr6/*http://www.yahoo.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\2.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL
O2 - BHO: Search Relevancy - {1D7E3B41-23CE-469B-BE1B-A64B877923E1} - C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\SEARCH~2.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows TaskAd] C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd\WinTaskAd.exe
Now with all windows closed, except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
-----
Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hiddem files/ folders:
[files...]
C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\SEARCH~2.DLL
[folders...]
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch
C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd
Reboot your computer normally.

Post back a new log.
