Panda Dome, and internet slowdown ???
I had panda free antivirus 18.0 on my win8.1 tablet... and a few days ago, it automatically updated itself to 18.6 "Dome"... which includes a free LIMITED version of a VPN (based on Hot-Sp-ot Shield). I did not activate the VPN, since my understanding is that it would not be compatible with OpenDNS's Family Shield.
Anyway, I started to notice that my internet was "dragging" ... and when I tried running a speed-test, it confirmed that my speed had dropped by about 99%! If I rebooted, the speed would temporarily get back to normal, only to soon revert to the snail's-pace setting.
After several days of the unusable internet, I "gambled" on Panda being the likely culprit, and uninstalled it (I had a copy of the installer, just in case I was wrong and needed to reinstall it ). Windows Defender automatically activated itself, as is the default protocol for Win 8.1/10. And so far, my internet speed has maintained its fast pace.
Time will tell. But for now, I'm keeping Defender on this system.
I don't believe I specified, I was talking about wireless internet. I still have panda installed on several other hardwired computers, and I believe they're still functioning normally... I'll have to double-check when I have a chance.

I don't currently use Panda Free on any of my systems (MSE, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes Premium work well) but I was intrigued enough to download/install a fresh copy of this latest "Dome" version on my test system using Win7 Pro. I had benchmarked my internet connection speeds prior to doing this, at speedtest.com.
Panda installed cleanly, and I too did not activate its VPN. My internet connection speeds did not decrease. Just FYI.
It disturbs me to hear that Panda is auto-updating. I went through its settings, and found no option to enable/disable any such function.
That said, Panda continues to appeal to me.
