Hello, I've tried FixVundo to no avail. It gets rid of winfixer but it always comes back. Have had all the symptoms: slower system, "microsoft" message boxes, pop-up web pages with the answer to my problem! (grrrr) etc. Also tried Ad-Aware, Spybot-Search & Destroy and Spyware Doctor.
Installed latest version of Hijack This as per instructions on Dell forum and ran it. Didn't get creative. :) Here's my log. Can you help?

It's now time to report back to us:
VirtumundoBeGone generated a "log" file of its own, which it should have placed on your Desktop... please REPLY to this thread, and copy/paste the VirtumundoBeGone log back here, along with your latest HJT log.
After posting my msg the other day, I did notice Chris' instructions at the top of the forum to try VirtumundoBeGone. It did seem to work. But now I've followed the rest of your instructions. Ran FixVundo once, rebooted and ran it again. Both times, no problems to report.

Nice work. Looks like VirtumundoBeGone successfully deactivated the bad WinFixer file.
[VirtumundoBeGone was the critical part of the fix. the double-run of FixVundo is primarily a precaution, to be sure things look good.]
At this point, I'm gonna try to ask someone else to step-in, to determine additional problems (if any) that you might have. Please be advised that we're very "understaffed" at the moment, so I can't make any guarantee as to when (or even if) the next helper will arrive.
Make sure you have System Restore running (toggle it off and On today to get rid of any bad stuff it may have retained) and then you can just go back to an earlier time if you hit a bad site. One way to make this more obvious is to check everything in your current HijackThis and Add to Ignore List then set up Hijackthis to run at boot and to show you if it finds anything new.
Thank you, RKinner, for additional suggestions to help me keep my system clean. It seems that I can't have System Restore running as you advise since I have Windows 2000 rather than XP. But I looked at the mvps.org site you recommended and took their suggestions into account. May have installed IE-SpyAd. (Hard to tell. Badly written instructions, in my opinion.) Already had SpywareBlaster. Also have Spybot S&D and AdAware and run them frequently. I think I'll save some of the other strategies like the free on-line scans for when I'm concerned by some symptom or other and just enjoy my clean system for now.
Thank you both for your help! It's extremely encouraging to discover there are also good people out there on the Internet who spend time helping others instead of causing problems.
