Vostro 3400, No audio device is installed

Hello,

I’m experiencing an audio issue with my Dell Vostro 3400. There is no sound from either the laptop speakers or the headphone jack, and Windows shows “No audio device is installed.”

The BIOS detects the Cirrus audio chipset, and I have installed the Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio Driver (TKHM4_WIN64_6.6001.4.12_A02) successfully. However, the Cirrus audio device is still not appearing in Device Manager.

The system is running Windows 11 Home.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or have any suggestions on how to get the Cirrus audio device recognized by Windows/Device Manager?

    Hi

Here’s the quickest way to fix no sound on a Dell Vostro 3400: first confirm Windows is using the correct output device, then reinstall the audio driver, and finally run Dell diagnostics to tell software trouble from a hardware fault. Dell’s Vostro 3400 service manual also shows the speakers/audio board are separate replaceable parts, so if software fixes fail, the fault may be in the speaker path or audio board.

    If it still fails

If Bluetooth and HDMI audio work but the built-in speakers and headphone jack do not, that strongly points to the internal audio path, jack detection, speakers, or audio board rather than Windows alone. The Vostro 3400 service manual confirms the audio board and speakers are serviceable components, so hardware inspection is the next step if reinstalling drivers and BIOS updates do not help.

      Kind Regards

    Hi

I am unsure about the status of your system, and I am not convinced changing the driver is the best option, however the internet reports.................

    Recommended driver

For a Cirrus Logic audio device, TKHM4 version 6.6001.4.12 A02 appears to be Dell’s latest official Cirrus driver for the Vostro 3400. Dell lists it for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11, released 28 January 2022. It specifically fixes headset-microphone detection when the headset microphone switch is muted. dell

There does not appear to be a newer Dell Cirrus Logic driver for this model. I would therefore not replace it with a random newer Cirrus package from a third-party driver site.

Important: some Vostro 3400s use Realtek

Dell also lists a separate Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, version 6.0.9268.1 A05, for the Vostro 3400. That is not an upgrade for a Cirrus device—it is for Vostro 3400 variants fitted with Realtek hardware. dell

Check the codec before changing drivers:

    1. Open Device Manager.

    2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.

    3. Open the audio device’s Properties.

    4. On Details, select Hardware Ids.

    Typical identifiers are:

    • VEN_1013 — Cirrus Logic; retain TKHM4.

    • VEN_10EC — Realtek; use Dell’s Realtek package instead.

    • VEN_8086 — Intel audio controller; this may also require the Dell chipset/Intel Smart Sound driver chain.

The Cirrus device commonly reports an ID similar to HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1013&DEV_8409, while Realtek devices report IDs beginning INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC.driveridentifier+1

    Recommendation

    • If your hardware ID is Cirrus/VEN_1013: keep TKHM4; reinstall it cleanly only if you have audio problems.

    • If your hardware ID is Realtek/VEN_10EC: install Dell package TXHH9, rather than the Cirrus driver.

    • Install or retain the Dell Intel chipset/Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers as well, because the codec driver alone may not restore audio on a clean Windows installation.

    • For speaker tuning, jack detection and microphone behaviour, install the Dell-recommended Waves MaxxAudio Pro or Dell Optimizer component where applicable; Dell notes that the Realtek package requires one of these for full functionality. dell

Do not force the Realtek package onto a Cirrus device merely because its version number is higher. The hardware ID and the driver’s matching .inf file are decisive.

      Kind Regards

    @anne_droid

For my case, there are no Intel SST. It is not listed. No drivers for Audio.
