UNSOLVED
100% cpu usage
I have two problems. first, i keep getting a popup that says i need to install trayapp. where can i get that from. second, i can't view any pages online. i have a dell dimension 4400 runing windows xp. is it possible to install a dns server or will i need to install internet explorer all over again.

Sure will,Download HiJackThis, then move it to it's own folder, like " C:\HJT". Next run, it, then click " Scan", then " Save log" (same button - it changes text!). Notepad will pop up with your log, copy/paste the text, then post it back to this thread. Don't try to fix anything yet, since alot of what it reports is 'good' stuff. RDIXSON,There quite a few problems in there. I'll be reviewing your log later on this evening. But before that, let's do the following, then post back a new log:
First, locate and remove the following using " Add/Remove programs"- WinTools
- WebRebates
- SearchAssistant
...or something to that effect with those in the nameAlso, post back with your hijack log below (last step at the end of this post), any " Add/Remove programs" entry(s) that your not familar with, or anything with " toolbar", " web", " find" or " search" anywhere in the title.
These steps are very important, since you have more than one virus/trojan on your system...---If your using AdAware 6.x, you'll need un-install it first using " Add/Remove programs".Download, install and run " AdAware SE Personal"; it's free to use. Then click " check for updates now", then click " Connect", if one is available, download it. Then " perform a full system scan", and fix everything that it finds. Close the AdAware SE Personal window.Next, download the VX2 cleaner Add-On for AdAware SE Personal, and follow the instructions on that page.---Next, download, install and run Spybot S&D; it's free to use. Then " Search for Updates", check(tick) all that are available, then click " Download updates".---Download, install and run " A squared 2" anti-trojan software; it's free to use. Then, click the following:- Update A2 Online (follow the prompts).
- Scan your computer for Malware infections (follow the prompts).

Next, go to www.trendmicro.com, then click "Free Online Scan". It will take a few minutes to download and install. When it's done, select all available drives, then click "Scan".
Next, you must download and install the critical windows updates! Before doing anything, or surfing anywhere, on the internet. This is likely the reason, your pc's acquired the initial infection - which spread. If this isn't done, your likely to be reinfected time and time again...If your using dialup, this can take sometime. However, a local electronics store might carry the free SP2 (service pack 2) diskettes available from Microsoft. Installing this from a cd is much faster then trying to download and install it, even when using a broadband connection.
Add AdAware, Spybot to your weekly regimine of cleanup programs. "A squared 2" anti-trojan, if installed, witll run with each bootup protecting your computer (just be sure to keep the trojan signatures up to date). We'll let those remove most of the problems on your computer first.
Post back a new log for review.
