Trying to move files -- nearly 43 gigs worth -- from old Dimension to new laptop. Have tried to use the Windows tranfer program about four times. Each time, at some point in the transfer, on both computers, I receive this flashing USB-connector icon that show an apparent disconnect between the two machines. I have tried to transfer as little as 17 gigs -- same result. Any secret to running this thing?? Also, I have yet to use the Laplink program that came with it. Does that work better than the Windows program???
Make sure you are moving only essential personal files and settings--photos, docs, music, etc. You cannot move any Windows protected system files. 43 gigs sounds excessive, especially for a laptop. Starting off with a new computer, you should try and keep the junk on the old one until you absolutely need something.
Thanks. much of the 43G is music; it's weird, but when the connection showed "disconnected" much of what i was transferring made it. this is pretty easy, but somewhat confusing on what happens if you close a window or lose the connection -- i now have the experience of using the cable, but not sure it was really worth it ...
