I entered the registry data after uninstalling Quicktime, then I reinstalled quicktime. The plug-in worked in AOL, after downloading "Musical Instruments" from QT.
But in firebird, there is a hole where the player should be.
Also, a webpage like
this won't play background music in Firebird for me. It works in IE and AOL.
Applets, and flash work in Firebird as well as a diect link to a wav file. Such as: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/bltnomad/gramps.wav
So, if I want to save stuff from the TIF, and play music in the webpage, I'll have to use AOL or IE.
(That seems to be another problem with firebird, cannot clear internet cache except from within Firebird)
Still, Firebird is pretty cool. Improvements would be to include all the plug-ins that IE has in the download.
Confirmed for that URL with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031015 Firebird/0.7 (aebrahim) (From Help/About). The "gramps" link works OK, but for the link at riversongs I get the lake applet running but not the music.
But the HTML is flawed, according to
this validator, in a variety of ways. One of the "problems" with Firebird is that it expects the HTML to adhere to the published specifications, and doesn't make very many guesses when it doesn't.
Lots of the reported errors are a result of a DTD specification that doesn't match the HTML, but some aren't.
I *think* ProV1's latest material works in Firebird, but I can't find a link to the version that has the background sound in it! You may have to ask him in the Graphics/Sig testing board.
What plugins are you having problems with? I don't think that one's an example of a plugins problem.
This may seem obvious, but when I went to RiverSongs.com I had to crank up the volume setting substantially to hear the audio, compared to other sites.
To ascertain if you have them, go into your Firebird
plugins folderwith your File Options set to view all files. Those two files are hidden.
If you do not have them, at least the nppl3260.dll can be obtained from
here. A month ago, the npul32.dll existed there too, but where it went I do not know.
If you can not find it, I suppose I could try to copy mine and make it available somehow.
About the music: If I go to a site that is like:
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/bltnomad/gramps.wav
Quicktime opens with a slim looking player to play the audio.
But if I go to a site that has embedded music (and probably video) there is no sound played.
Xley, I might try thay other .DLL if I can get it from you, but would that fix the music not playing in webpages problem?
I didn't download Realplayer, but Quicktime.
Go to my site here:
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/BltNomad/HFH.html
When I open this site in Firebird, The audio player cannot be seen, there is a rectangle hole where the player should be, and no audio.
Can't press the play button on the player if the player doesn't show up.
I think maybe my Active -X isn't right in Firebird. I installed the Neptune .dll,so that I can run tests in PC pitstop. But it failed to show the clock in the active-x test. It was just blank.
Like I said, if there are no real solutions, I can still use IE or AOL to visit the special websites.
There are a number of posts on the Firebird forum concerning matters of sound. Perhaps you should investigate over there. Bill is probably right about the coding. I remember reading Firebird postings regarding coding issues.
When I go to your BltNomad site in Firebird, I do not see the mediaplayer, nor do I see a blank space where the player ought to be.
However, when I go to the site in IE, everything works as you have planned.
Thanks, and GHB, I tried that IE thing again, and it worked this time. The problem I had with it before is after I installed it, my imported IE favoites wouldn't open in Firebird.
People were always saying how great Firebird was, I downloaded it a few months ago.(Dec.16) I saved the zip file. I tried it out before, but didn't like the idea of having to install all of the plug-ins, so I uninstalled it. But I kept hearing how great it was, and I did like the tabbed browsing. MYIE2 was OK, but took up more room at the top. It also had tabbed browsing, and everything worked as it was the same as IE, but "souped up".
But now, I do like Mozilla Firebird, despite the limitations. Now, if they would only come out with Firebird with all of the functionality of IE.
P.S. Also, the graphic editor is not available at Dell using Firebird.

Depends on what directory you installed Firebird and a specific made for firebird plugins registry file.
You will also need to reinstall Real Player, Quicktime, shockwave if you want them. AOLs already installed plugins do not count. ;-)
