Com Port Problem
I have a Latitude Cpi laptop that was running Windows 98. I upgraded to ME, not smart, and now I can't use com port 1. Keep getting mesage that Com Port can't connect. I use this to program phone systems. I did try using a PC to access a system and it worked fine, just porblems with laptop. Hlep!
- Serial mouse is history. PS/2 mouse uses IRQ12 or USB mouse uses no IRQ. Touchpad on Latitude CPi works like a PS/2 mouse so no conflict with serial port, otherwise you'd have it from the very begining.
Open hardware device manager and check to see in ports if COM1 is available or work properly. If there is no COM1, you probably want to check BIOS settings to make sure COM1 is not disabled. If it still doesn't work, try to manually configure COM1 (IRQ4, port 3F8) instead of automatic setting.

COM1 is not normally a good port because it interferes with the mouse (IRQ4). If you have four ports, trying changing to COM3 or COM4 on your modem card (usually dipswitches or jumpers). Plug n Play should sort out suitable IRQ.
COM4/lRQ3 and COM3/IRQ5 are typical optional combinations depending on whether the IRQs are used and for what.
