My computer is a Dell Dimension L 500 with Windows 98 NE. The defragmenter program has never worked. The blue bar in the defragmenter window shows 1% completion after one minute of operation, it stays there about 30 seconds and then returns to 0%. This cycle is repeated for hours and never shows more than 1%. Please tell me how to correct this problem. I'm sure the C drive is in need of a good clean up.
