Dell M1330 Microsoft Activation Code

I have a 2-yr old M1330 that I dropped, and had hard drive replaced.  The tech installed Windows Vista but now I need my activation code.  The label on the bottom of my computer is wearing off and 2 or three digits are hard to read.  I keep getting error messages when i try to activate.  I am out of warranty.  It seems that after spending more than $1900 on a computer, I am now being asked to spend another $200 for another activation code.  Anyone know how to deal with this?  I currently own 5 Dell machines with 5 Vista licenses and feel just a bit put out.

Hi avocats, If you are using Dell software on a dell system, you dont need any activation codes. The reason being, the code is written into the reinstall disc, which reads your mobo on loading, and then activaties on loading. If you are being asked for a code, then you are not using Dell software, or there is a fault. You said you have 5 other Dell machines, what  i would do, is to try another disc from one of those machines.
