Having sucessfully installed Win7 I am about to begin the the Process of reinstalling Drivers/Utilities.
On your web site you indicate the order in which drivers should be installed and what hardware is in the device that may require drivers. In particular,DSS or NSS.
Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling the operating system or updating all the computer’s drivers, it is imperative that this software be installed first. Currently, the DSS and NSS are not required for systems with Windows Vista installed. This is located under the System and Configuration UtilitiesCategory on the Drivers and Downloads page. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?journalid=7CE12900645C012DE040AE0AB6E10A78&docid=362048#Issue5
I could find this Utiltiy under Drivers using system Tag. :emotion-6:
Also struggling to decipher what hardware I have on the 1745 laptop, as there are drivers for different hardware. I.e Chipset.
i have been to system configuration Menu and clicked Current system Config and clicked on install software. It appears to have hung, cant see it doing much. tried clicking on links in Current System Config and Web Page reports, error on page. Message on top says Downloading/Verifying the Dell System Profiler Plug in, as i said cant see that it is doing anything.
Welcome any help you can offer.
Regards

Ok guys, have been able to get to look at Current system Config and unfortunately, I have not gleaned much more info than I already know. would still appreiate some enlightenment on the DSS and NSS utility and weather i really need it.
Was installing drivers for Win7 64bit and as you say most drivers were installed.
Was a bit concerned about the order the drivers need to be installed in, never heard of this before when sorting drivers. In the end, installed drivers in the reccommended order on the web page, without dss or nss.

Check device manager, most likely W7 installed all the drivers you need.
You will not need DSS or NSS with Windows 7
The only Windows 7 drivers Dell offers on that system are for 64bit, So if you are installing 32bit W7, then Dell has no drivers for you.
If you use your service tag, it will only return drivers relevant to your particular system.
