Dueling Upgrade Reports

According to Dell's Upgrade Advisor, my video card (ATI Mobility Radeon X1300) isn't enough for Aero.
According to Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor it is enough for Aero.

Playing the cynic...
If I have to buy another [fill in with any item] to get Aero, Dell profits. Microsoft doesn't. In fact, Microsoft might lose because I might indefinitely postpone upgrading to Vista.

On the other hand, if Microsoft is wrong, then I will install Vista and find myself with awful graphics. Then I might return Vista. Microsoft would lose. Dell would gain (as described above). If Microsoft is right, then they get a few dollars. :)

Who do you think is right?

What are the other specs on the card, such as video RAM? I'm pretty sure you should get the Aero experience with the card you have. I would go with MS's results myself, or, better yet, try ATi's Vista Upgrade Advisor:

I'll play the middle.     You will have Aero, but not to the fullest with that card.  How is that one for ya ?  :smileyvery-happy:

Plus having 2 gb of ram will also be better.

If youhave at least 128mb of DEDICATED RAM on that card, AERO will activate.  Once you buy the OS, you cannot return it.

    It has 128 RAM.
Thanks for the ATI link. According to ATI, I should be just fine.

Good point about the software. I suppose I could use my negative experience to dissuade people from Vista, though.

Although it look like I'll be able to upgrade without any problems except for the Creative sound drivers (a whole other topic).
