First I did a reformat directed by a Dell tech and now it sometimes pops up a box stating that I need to put in my windows Xp Home Edition to because other versions are trying to replace my versions.

Tried to do sfc/scannow but it won't let me do it. I have the the sp1 have not attempted to install sp2 yet. Did a virus scan no virus shows up.

    Here's what it actually said:

Files that are required for Widows to run properly have been replaced by unreconized versions.

To maintain system stability windows must restore the original version of these files.

Insert your Winsows Xp Home Edition Service Pack Cd now.

    carol3710,

When prompted, insert your XP SP1 CD and Windows should take care of replacing the incorrect files. I am assuming that your system came with SP1 on the XP resintallation CD.

Alternatively you can use System File Checker but it appears that you left out the space when running it. The command is sfc /scannow with a space after sfc.

After putting in my cd the message still returns over and over then said something needs to replace versions of DLL Cache. Have you heardof this before and any ideas how to fix it?
