Hi Guys, I recently installed MS Windows 2000 Ver 5.0 Build 2195 SP 4. Installation was not a problem. After the soft install I have ended up with large font size (which I am unable to reduce). Under Display Properties the display is Default Monitor on VGA Colours set to 16 Colours ( no other option available to select from drop down menu). Screen Area set to 640 by 480 pixels (not able to change to any other setting). Unable to connect connect my notebook via TV out socket. When I browse dell.co.uk page via Fire fox ver 2.0.0.11 or IE 6.0 flash picture are not clear. Any help will be appreciated. Happy to provide additional information if required. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year Details of my Laptop are Inspiron 4000 Mobile Pentium (R) III - 850 / 700 Mhz with 10 GB hard disk, 128 MB RAM MS Windows 2000 Ver 5.0 Build 2195 SP 4
After installing the operating system you need to install some specific additional drivers for your system. These may be on a CD included with your system or downloaded from the Dell Support site. Be sure to note there is a recommended sequence.
If you have already installed all your drivers, or have none to install, go to your control panel/display and increase your display pixel count at least to 1024 x 768. That will fix your desktop fonts and also give you a better picture.
Gents, Thanks for your help. appreciated. I have installed drivers as advised and note book is working as required. I now want to partition my disk drive i.e. C:\ and D:\. Could you advise how I can go about partitioning my disk drive? Cheers
You'll need imaging software to save a copy of the existing installation elsewhere or something like Partition Magic to shrink the existing partition without deleting the existing installation, or you'll need to re-install Windows after deleting the existing partition and creating/formatting two smaller ones.
Capturing an image of your current Windows installation and saving the image file to CD/DVD or another hard disk drive is recommended for backup in any case. In this case, would allow you to restore the image after partitioning and formatting with any compatible tool, without worrying about the installation because it's backed up.
A free or inexpensive DOS-based imaging utility would be adequate, but you can also get late-model Windows-based imaging software with incremental/differential image update capabilities.
